![]() Des Bevis: I was born in Weymouth, England and studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol, specializing in calligraphy and illumination. Following my fine art studies I earned teaching qualifications from Bristol University. During a teaching career and as an educational administrator at the University of Manitoba, I completed numerous commissions for clients in England, Canada & the USA. I now live in Nanaimo, BC. After retirement I commenced painting in a non-representational style which extended and complemented my calligraphic designs. I often incorporate the fluid and linear qualities of calligraphy to enhance my work. Of particular significance to me was my commission in 1970 to produce for the Hudson Bay Company, the Charter transferring the Company from the UK to Canada.
