Kent Gravelle

Kent Gravelle is an emerging artist, an abstract painter living and working in Nanaimo, BC.  Kent took the engineering path in college, an aesthetic which has resurfaced in his love of design, lines and structure as is evident within in the controlled yet flowing expression of his art.

The freedom to improvise within structure is what appeals to Kent.  “The structure is the physical canvas, the paint and where it goes, or takes you, is the freedom.” This desire to express himself with whimsical freehand lines combined with vivid colours has resulted in a fresh style unfettered by a formal artistic training, although informed by a lifelong study of art history.

Previously Kent operated a video animation studio in Toronto and has owned many businesses, always taking any opportunity to design packaging, catalogues, advertising, etc. Creative expression through painting on canvas has come later in his life, inspired by a move to Vancouver Island with its breathtaking scenery, relaxed lifestyle and vibrant artistic community.
